All groups have been settled for the Gigabyte E-Sports Tournament (GEST) Dota 2 – March. All of the eight playoff contending teams are finally determined.

The last four teams to join the GEST Dota 2 March playoffs were the top two teams of Group A and D. Both groups are played yesterday, 29 March.

Group A was won convincingly by Chains Stack, and they have now established themselves as one of the favorites on this competition. They dominated this strong group, where MUFC placed second. The Philippine team Mineski were eliminated and  finished at third place, while Suns played with more stand-ins than regular players and decided to forfeit their last game.

Group D came as how people projected it to be. MiTH.Trust was very convincing as they dominated their games. Meanwhile, Indonesian team Joenet was the clear second as they stomped eventual third placer TnC Gaming on their decider match. Vietnamese team Gameware finished last on the group.

The playoffs will start today, with all matches until the semi-finals being held. The Grand Finals is scheduled tomorrow. All games will be Bo3, except for the Championship which is set as Bo5.

Saturday, 30th of March:

  • 1500 QF1: my Chains Stack vs Indonesia JoeNet ELITE
  • 1500 QF2: sg NeoES.int vs th NeoES.TH
  • 1800 QF3: my NeoES.Orange vs Indonesia ULTImate
  • 1800 QF4: th MiTH.Trust vs my Inv.MUFC.agdn
  • 2200  SF1: WQF1 vs WQF2
  • 2200  SF1: WQF3 vs WQF4

While it is not surprising to see the two Malaysian teams still at the competition, many people would take notice that two Indonesian and Thai teams also qualified into the playoffs. Also, despite having four teams, the Philippines again has yet to have a team go past the elimination round.

Aside from the purse, the top finisher of GEST Dota 2 will earn qualification on another tournament – GEST The Challenge.
